Ideas and Inspiration for a 1950's themed Bridal Shower!

I adore all of these ideas for a 1950's Housewife themed Bridal Shower. Everything is so adorable! I've decided to compile some images and ideas I have for the theme. I think this would be really great for a vintage Bride to be, or even a modern Bride because it would be less expected! I love the red and turquoise color combo, I think these colors really fit the time period and theme.

You could invite all of the guests to 'Become the perfect housewife' with invitations like this...

I know I would be so excited to get an invitation to this Bridal Shower!

Decor is easy, pick up some turquoise table cloths, plates and napkins with moderate red accents. They did a great job at this 1950's themed shower!

I love how they used the wooden spoons and forks inside the napkins. Little touches can give a Bridal Shower a WOW factor!

Instead of serving a cake, serve cupcakes! Everything was Vanilla and Chocolate in the 1950's, so don't go with exotic flavors, instead make plain cupcakes with white icing and then have guests decorate them at a 'cupcake bar' have simple and easy toppings to put on the cupcakes (cherries, blue and red sprinkles, whip cream, black licorice etc..)

If you wanted to get fancy and REALLY cute, you could do a 'milkshake-cupcake' like these which are ADORABLE!!
Find out how to make them here

You can't have a Bridal shower without games! Check out this cute game. 'How to be a good housewife'
On the invitations you should tell guests to bring the oldest recipe card they have, make a recipe book using a basic binder, and some cardstock paper and embellishments.  Decorate the book with die cut red and blue chipboard letters to match the color theme of the shower, when guests arrive they should glue the recipe into the book for the bride to be, this makes a great gift and an even better keepsake.

A great gift would be this book I found on Amazon.com! Mostly for amusement, but a fun read regardless!

To add to the fun, tell your guests to dress up in their best 1950's attire! Best dressed gets a prize basket filled with vintage 1950's candy!

Some cute attire ideas..

A 1950's themed Bridal Shower is a fun way to include people of all ages! Everyone loves to remember 'The good ol' days.' I love this era so much! Everything was done with class and grace. If any of you have had, or plan to have a 1950's bridal shower, What are your ideas?

Starfish Escort Cards tutorial! Great for Beach Weddings!

Although this blog will mostly be dedicated to my life at home, I did want to include some fun things and projects from our tropical themed beach wedding! I received so much inspiration from blogs, I made a promise to myself and some of the girls on my wedding blog site that I would update and share my ideas and inspiration.

This blog is about our Starfish Escort Cards! They were super simple and added such a cute inexpensive element to our wedding by the sea. I hope you all enjoy and if you decide to make your own Starfish Escort Cards please leave a comment with a photo of the ones you created!

Materials Needed:
Mini Starfish 2-3" in size (I ordered mine from Qualityshells.com)
Ribbon (about 2 packs for 80 place cards)
White Shimmer Card stock (I used 3 sheets)
Orange Sharpie Pen
Hot Pink Sharpie Pen
(Or your wedding colors)

Extras:
Sand
Sand box (my dad built mine and painted it orange)

The first thing I did was pre-cut my ribbon to save time, I cut it about 10 inches long. I ended up having to cut the ends because I had so much extra but it was better then not having enough. I suggest cutting it about 6-7 inches long depending on the Size of your starfish.

Then I Pre-cut my place cards with my Martha Stewart Cutter (this thing was a lifesaver in all of my wedding projects!) I don't know the exact measurements I cut them at but I could fit 3 rows for each sheet of card stock I had. I would say they were close to 3" x 5" in size. (If you don't want to hand write the place cards then before cutting you need to print out the names using excel. Break it down into 3 rows and then cut your cards out. I would use a nice font like 'Scriptina' Which can be downloaded from dafont.com

So now I had my basic materials and everything laid out and ready to assemble.

I wrote all my guests names on the cards in Orange and then did the table name where they were sitting in Hot Pink. It ended up looking awesome.

I took a starfish and wrapped the ribbon around the bottom leg and back up to the top of the starfish, I punched holes into my place cards and pushed them through the ribbon, then I tied a knot around the place cards after they were in place.

I repeated this step with All 90 of the place cards.

After they were completed it was time to alphabetize! I did this by printing out my excel master guest list ( they have templates on Microsoft word!) and it was really easy, I didn't put the sand into the box . I figured I would let my coordinator do that they day off because it would be hard to transport.

Everyone loved them and so did I! They really added to the feel of my wedding. I'm not great at tutorials but I hope I can inspire future beach brides in some way with things that inspired me and things that were appreciated and a great hit at my wedding! Everyone was complimenting me on all the details, it was so nice everyone appreciated everything that I took so hard to work on.

Happy Wedding Planning girls!

SCRATCH THAT {Brand New Introduction!}

Hellllo blogging world! First off let me say I am SO excited to finally have my very own personal blog, Nope, This isn't my first blog but it's my first one here on blogspot. I was recently married and have a Wedding blog where I chronicled all these tedious wedding DIY projects. The site had a wonderful group of girls though that were very supportive and inspiring, I enjoyed blogging so much, I wanted to keep the trend goin' with a blog about my very own life and the fact that I am now a Rookie Wife. I promise I won't mind if you skim through this post or only read the interesting parts!

I am a 23 year old newlywed, I have an AWESOME son who means the world to me. Seriously. Everything I do is for him. I love volunteering at his school, doing homework, playing football, baking and going to the movies with him! Being a Mom is the most AMAZING thing in the world. I can't imagine life without kids and can't wait to have more! The Husband is ready now, but I've decided to wait about a year or two until we get our new home finished and go on out (obviously belated) Honeymoon. I.LOVE.FOOTBALL. I am a Freelance Sports Writer and besides spending time with my family I enjoy nothing more then talking sports, or writing about them. Although I am still writing, I have put my education on hold to raise my son and be a Stay at Home Mom. I am so thankful to be able to do this! I love Football, The Beach, Christmas, Baking, Reading, Writing, Decorating, Organizing, Scrapbooking, Shopping (DUH!), Finding great deals, Strawberry Margaritas, Laughing, Spending time with my family and of course, Blogging!

I love the whole 1950's era and wish we could all transport back into time.

My Husband and I just bought our first home and we are SO excited about it! We have lived with my Mom for 9 years and it's time to leave The Nest and build our own.(We've been together since High School!) I am quite the homebody and believe that a home really is the 'happy place', This particular one is a huge fixer upper though, and requires a lot of work, but my Hubs is a Contractor so it's what he does for a living, he's taking care of all the hard stuff while I get to paint and decorate. Lucky me! I hope to chronicle all of our process right here on this blog!! I'm so excited to compare the Before & Afters and have already had so much inspiration from this site!

I really have no idea if I have time for this blog or if I'll be able to keep it up, I just look at sooo many other blogs  everyday and I always think, I can totally do this stuff. Even if nobody reads this, hopefully it will inspire me to start and finish projects!
Well, enough about me, I want to hear about YOU! Are there any tips you guys can offer me on home renovation process? Decorating tips?
